| The Nene is/was an endangered species. A type of goose, it was nearly destroyed by the introduction of mongooses to the island, as they are ground-nesting birds. They are on the rebound in some areas, such as here, at Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island of Hawaii. Here is an offering to the god Pele that some locals left at the volcano Kilauea, being enjoyed by the birds. Things I would do differently: Nothing.
